About Cumbria Dance in Carlisle

Debbie Marper RAD (Teaching Cert.), AISTD Dip. Cert. Ed. BTDA

Debbie moved to Cumbria in 1984 and found that there was a lack of good quality and creative dance education. She strived to rectify this by creating projects and classes in Carlisle and Cumbria that engaged people of all ages in dance and drama. In 1991 Debbie met fellow dance enthusiast Barbara Renel and in 1995 they opened the studio in Atlas Works, Carlisle. Both Debbie and Barbara continued to strive to provide high quality dance education and training for all students, increase access to training and bridge the gap between education and vocational dance training.

When Barbara retired in 2012, Debbie continued to co-own Cumbria Dance with Rachel, Barbara's daughter.

Debbie also works in schools in and around Carlisle delivering dance to pupils and teachers. She is co-ordinator of the Carlisle U dance festival and has also worked on the Dance Recall project working with dementia patients.
